Maryam cannot be considered a leader: Nisar

ISLAMABAD (web desk) – Former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said in an interview aired on Sunday that Maryam Nawaz cannot be considered a leader until she formally joins politics and let the people decide.

Nisar was interviewed by a private television channel during which he said that ‘sit-in protesters’ were permitted to enter the Red Zone without consulting him. However, he said that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was nominated for the premiership with his consultation.

He hailed Shehbaz Sharif as the most suitable candidate to lead Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz.

While talking about former dictator Musharraf, he said that he was not permitted to leave the country until the detailed verdict of the top court was delivered. He said that he agrees with Nawaz Sharif on the agenda of respect of people’s votes however, his strategy for the cause should be different.

The ex-minister further said that civil-military relations can better with talks and discussions.

Earlier he had said the army was in no way related to the Panama case and no role was played either.

He claimed to have seen Nawaz Sharif disappointed multiple times after 2013. No political gains can be achieved by taking up a front against the apex court, he said.

Nisar said that he has terms with Pervez Musharraf ever since he was a serving colonel.

The ex-minister was interviewed by a private television channel and he through the course of it he talked about various issues. He said that had his entire conversation with the ousted premier during a cabinet meeting was leaked, it would have led to his personality building.

He said that he used to bring all kinds of issues to Nawaz Sharif’s notice in one-on-one meetings. His relationship with PML-N’s former president has seen ups and down since 1985 to 2013 but there was never any falling out.

He said that he takes pride in the fact that he hails from a military family that has been serving in the military for past generations.
