ECP orders arrest warrant against Imran Khan
ISLAMABAD (Web des) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has on Thursday ordered to issue bailable arrest warrant against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in contempt of court case to ensure his presence before the bench.
ECP has taken the decision because PTI chief failed to appear before it, and has postponed the case till September 25. Imran has also been directed to submit surety bond of Rs100,000 until the next hearing.
PTI leader and Imran’s counsel Babar Awan has said after the verdict that the warrant is bailable which is just like summon.
Babar Awan told that his client has already challenged the jurisdiction of ECP in Islamabad High Court regarding the case, and the matter is being taken before the larger bench.
PTI chairman’s lawyer further added that Imran Khan will appear before the court when it is required.
Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Raza Khan headed the five-member ECP bench which had summoned Imran Khan in person on Thursday.
