2021 Champioms Trophy To Be Held In India

WEB DESK – The chief executive of International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive David Richardson has warned that the next Champions Trophy that is scheduled to be held in India could be scrapped in order to stage two World Twenty20 Championships in a four-year cycle.

Pakistan crush arch rival India by 180 runs in the final of recent edition of the tournament at The Oval on Sunday.

India also hold the hosting rights for the next Champions Trophy that is scheduled in 2021.

Despite of the uncertainity that prevails regards to its occurrence, the tournamnet held in England and Wales received overwhelming response from global audience while millions glued to their TV sets to enjoy the live action.

Chief Executive of ICC David Richardson has recently revealed that there is no guarantee as to whether this tournamnet will be held or not and that it would be discussed during the ongoing ICC annual conference at The Oval.

“What we want to do is differentiate our global events from each other so that they can be standalone and create maximum interest every time the event happens,” Richardson expressed while talking to reporters.

“At this stage, the next Champions Trophy is still scheduled for India in 2021. Whether that gets changed, the consideration has been given to changing to two T20s in a four-year cycle which would mean swapping the Champions Trophy for a World T20,” he added.

The ICC CEO also hinted that World T20s may possibly involve upto 20 teams in future.
